Cake decorating help needed?

I would like to start decorating cakes. What do I need to know? What types of tools do I need? Any help would be great. Thanks :)

take the beginner Wilton cake deco class at any hobby or craft store, and sometimes at community centers.

You remember those roses on your cake, and the rosettes?

Those designs are made with a pastry bag: A triangular bag with a hole. In the hole you insert a tip made of brass and nickel. The "tip"  has a design in it. you fill the bag with icing, then squeeze the bag so the icing goes through the  tip and has a design. Use steady pressure.

You need to go to your local craft store (Micheal's, AC Moore) and see if they offer any classes, they are very cheap but you learn alot..Just buying a kit is not going to do it you need to take a class.
