Cake mix used as cupcakes?

I recently bought Red Velvet Cake mix, and I was wondering if it would make a difference if I put the mix in individual cupcake holders instead of one big pan. Will the cupcakes rise high enough? Just making sure.

Nope, just fill them 3/4 full and you will be fine.

ANY cake mix can be used to make cupcakes. Any cake recipe can be put into cupcake holders and baked as cupcakes also.

Do not fill the cupcakes more than 3/4 full and even there they will likely overflow the cupcake tin anyway.

I like to fill them about 2/3 full then they are gently rounded on top and don't spread all over the pan top.

Read the box. It will have instructions on how long to bake the cupcakes down where it gives alternate pan sizes for baking.

I do this ALL the time. As long as you follow the ingredient directions on how to make a cake, you can just put them in cupcake tins (with the little papers). The only thing that is different is the cooking time. I don't know how long red velvet cake takes to cook, but when I've done it with white cake its about 10-15 minutes. Put them in for 10 minutes and watch for them to rise above the pan, then stick a toothpick in 1 of them and pull it out. If there is batter on the toothpick, leave them in 5 more minutes or until you can pull the toothpick out clean.

In the event that you leave them in a little too long and the top part is a little darker than the body of the cupcake, just put frosting on them and no one will notice

Yes, I do this with cake mix all the time. It's fine. I usually fill them about 3/4.
