I'm only inviting 50 guests for my coming engagement party and I'm thinking of ordering a 3 tier cake like this one... http://www.pinkcakebox.com/images/cake331.jpg

How many slices do you think in a 3 tier cake?

Should I go for 2 tier if it exceeds more than 50 slices?

Suggestions please. Thanks.

  1. First, a cake feeds a lot more than it looks. We actually preferred the look of a 4 tier cake over a 3 and got it even though we didn't need it. We had them cut all of it up and had little cake boxes so people could take some home if they wanted. What wasn't taken, we took home ourselves.

Yikes! I didn't realize until after I posted that you meant for an engagement party. You shouldn't have a tiered cake for an engagement!!!! Go with a sheet cake.

  2. just to throw in my opinion I agree with the person that said that the cake you are choosing is definitley big. Either lose a tier or do the cupcake/muffin idea. I really liked that.

  3. The cake is beautiful!  If you will be saving the top layer then then I would definitely go for the 3 layered cake.  You want to be certain you have enough cake for everyone.  Some people will have 2 or 3 slices and some won't have any.  There are always the ones that want to "take some home too".  You won't beleive the things people will ask you for. LOL!  If yiu have cke left over then just give it away to your family and friends.  Who doesn't like cake?

  4. Cupcakes are a new hit these days. Have a small cake for y'all to cut into and then serve the cupcakes for the guests.

  5. The cake is pretty. :)

You can get smaller round cakes to feed to feed 50 or a bit more people (some want another piece). Also it wouldn't hurt to have a bit more left over for family to take home. The bakery will advise what's best.

    All the best.

  6. I think you should save the fancy 3-tier cake for the actual wedding and have something more fun for the engagement party.  A new trend, which I'm doing for my wedding, is a tiered cupcake tower, with beautifully decorated cupcakes arranged on a tiered platter, so its shape resembles a wedding cake.  It is a good idea for parties with only 50 guests, so there won't be too much leftover cake, but it still looks very elegant, and it's a lot easier than having to have someone stand there and cut it all night too.

  7. I think it would be perfect...  you may want to save some too, but here's a chart that will help you (it depends on how big each tier is)   http://www.earlenescakes.com/ckserchart....

I disagree with the person above me, some people may want more than one piece, but there will also be people that don't want one at all, so I wouldn't suggest having A LOT more than 50 servings or you'll be eating cake forever

  8. You may want something that slightly exceeds 50 slices because people may want more than one slice. If they don't your family will take it home. I like the cake and I'm sure you could find a baker who could make it with the right amount of slices.

  9. Oh, you should get one of those gorgeous cupcake cakes. It's like a tier stand, but with individual cupcakes or muffins for each guest! You could have 55 or so made and then you would have plenty. I think it's a cute idea :) Kinda like this

  10. I would ask your baker, but what you could do is have styrofoam inbetween layers to make it a larger looking cake.

  11. Your baker can tell you how many a particular cake will serve. Just call and ask them.

  12. The size of the cake will dictate how many slices. Remember, wedding cakes aren't just cut in wedges like a birthday cake, so it's not x number of slices per tier.

That said, there is likely to be a lower limit on how small they can make each cake. Check with bakers, there's a lot that can be done.

And remember that you have the option of saving the top tier for a later date, an English tradition.

  13. That's a pretty big cake for only 50 people.  I'd definitely lose a tier.  Your baker should be able to tell you how many slices are in the cake you choose.
