Cal Crutchlow of Monster Yamaha Tech3 improves by a second at Valencia test – MotoGP news
Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow improved his pace aboard the 2012 1000cc YZR-M1 during the two-day test at Valencia, Spain.
The British rider put his 1000cc Tech3 M1 and spent 75 laps on the initial day of the test. His best lap time for the first day was 1 minute and 33.652 seconds.
On second day, he shredded off more than a second and recorded 1 minute and 32.550 seconds on the time sheet after completing 67 laps.
Crutchlow said, “This was a very important test to get used to the new 1000cc YZR-M1 and thankfully the weather was in our favour and we could get in a lot of laps to understand the early potential of the bike.”
The official MotoGP test session was held at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, for the development of the 2012 prototypes.
The riders took full advantage of the last outing for 2011 season. The first MotoGP preseason test will be held at Sepang, Malaysia, in late January.
The session was planned after a day break from season finale, Valencia GP. Following the end of 2011 season a new teammate, Andrea Dovizioso joined Crutchlow.
The former Repsol Honda rider, Dovizioso joined hands with Tech3 squad for the 2012 MotoGP season. He conducted his first test session with his new team at Valencia.
The Brit rider added, “The 1000 seems to suit my style a little better and I have to say that Yamaha has done a very good job and we are already working from a strong base. The bike feels quite similar to the 800 YZR-M1 but Yamaha has managed to keep the
strong points of this year's bike.”
The British 2011 rookie explained the difference between 800cc and 1000cc machines. He added that bike has a lot more power which is appealing. He was content to sustain and then improve his pace.
After the winter break, he tends to return to MotoGP with a lot more confidence after learning in his rookie season.
After experiencing a tough season with few impressive results, he feels that his team has done a great job to give him confidence and put strong effort behind him.
