Cal Crutchlow says 2013 will be a tough season – MotoGP news
Yamaha Tech 3 rider, Cal Crutchlow expects that the upcoming MotoGP season will be a tough one for him. But the 27-year-old British rider thinks that he still give a challenging time to leading MotoGP riders.
“I really don't know what equipment our team will get this year. The championship is definitely going to be tougher. But hopefully I can be consistent and get a few podiums. That's the plan,” Crutchlow said while talking to BBC Sport.
At the end of 2012 MotoGP season, Crutchlow stood 7th on final rider’s standings with a total of 151 championship points. He finished 3rd in the 2012 Czech Republic Grand Prix. A podium finish in the Czech Republic Grand Prix made Crutchlow the first British
rider in 12 consecutive years to clinch a podium finish.
Crutchlow followed the Czech Republic podium finish with another 3rd place finish in the 2012 Australian Grand Prix.
In the upcoming season, Bradley Smith, another British rider will be Crutchlow’s teammate which makes Yamaha Tech 3 an all-British team. In the Yamaha factory team, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi will be riding to claim another championship title for
Yamaha.
“We've got some great guys out there this season. The top two will be Jorge and Dani Pedrosa again, without a shadow of a doubt. They will be there week in and week out,” Crutchlow said.
2012 was Crutchlow’s career best. Commenting on his run in the previous MotoGP season, Crutchlow rated his run as satisfactory and aspires to improve on his 2012 performance in the upcoming season.
“I've proven my speed and if I can improve again like last season and make that jump again, I can be even nearer to the front. I look forward to the challenge,” Crutchlow said.
2013 MotoGP season is scheduled to start off with the Qatar Grand Prix on April 7, 2013. With a little less than three months to go until the 2013 season starts, Crutchlow needs to give it all he has got in order to have a better run than 2012.
