Cal Maritime Academy sailing team wins 2012 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup
Leaders of the 2012 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup/Cal Maritime Invitational Intercollegiate Regatta from the beginning, the host club’s Maritime Academy sailing team grabbed the title after showing some outstanding sailing skills. The not only defended
their title that they won last year but also proved their class over the rest of the fleet.
The regatta produced some of the most thrilling sailing competitions during their run on the Port of Los Angeles Harbor waters. The crew on Cal Maritime Academy sailing team began the last day of the regatta with an eight-point lead over the second placed
team. They secured convincing scores that were enough to hit the winning podium place.
The weather conditions on the Port of Los Angeles Harbor waters were quite ideal on the last day of the Cup. The wind was packing some heavy knots to make the final day of 2012 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup more exciting. For the first time in the past
five year history of the event, the top three podiums of the result board were occupied by the California teams.
The Cal Maritime Academy sailing team compiled a couple of lower finishes to win the regatta with 26 points. USC sailing team finished on second position with five pints difference at 31 points while the third seat was taken by CSU Channel Islands team by
the score line of 36 points.
