Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team loses to University of California, Irvine on Saturday
Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team was up against University of California, Irvine on Saturday.
This was the third time this season that the two teams were competing each other in this season. Two times out of the three, the Matadors had suffered defeat against UC Irvine and the recent match added another to that score.
Saturday’s defeat came to the Matadors sorely as they were bettered in a clean sweep. The Matadors suffered three back-to-back losses on the night of honouring their three seniors who would be parting ways with Cal State. To add more injury to this, the
loss came to the Matadors in the last home ground match that Cal State would be playing in this season.
The overall season record of Cal State does not show an encouraging score. The number of wins they have been able to tally in this season so far equal to the amount of seven. The Matadors have registered these wins against suffering a high amount of losses
that have reached a figure of 21.
The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record of the Matadors is not any more impressive than their overall season one. The number of wins that the Matadors have bagged in the MPSF total to be five. These victories have been achieved at the expense of suffering
defeats that amount to be 16 in all.
In contrast to this, both the overall season statistics and the MPSF record of UC Irvine are far better than that of the Matadors. The amount of wins that UC Irvine has registered in this season so far number to be 15. These wins have been secured against
suffering a total of 11 defeats.
In MPSF, UC Irvine has been able to bag a total number of 11 matches. These victories have been managed along with registering losses that total to be eight in all.
The first set of the match was the only one in which the spectators saw some tough competition between the two teams. The Matadors were able to challenge UC Irvine considerably and made the match thrilling to watch.
However, the Matadors were unable to overpower UC Irvine and ended up losing the first set of the match at 25-22. The next two sets saw a decline in the performance of the Matadors. As a result, UC Irvine won both of them at 25-17 each.
Freshman outside hitter Brandon Lebrock of the Matadors made the following comments after his team had lost the match, “We will have more experience and we will improve a lot over the summer and with the new guys coming in next year, I believe that we will
do very well.”
