Calculate the solubility product of silver iodide at 25°C given the following data:

E˚(V)

AgI(s) e– → Ag(s) I– –0.15

I2(s) 2e– → 2I– 0.54

Ag e– → Ag(s) 0.80

A. 2.9 × 10–3

B. 1.9 × 10–4

C. 2.1 × 10–12

  1. Find the voltage (E[total]).

    You want the equation

    AgI(s) <--> Ag+(aq) + I-(aq)

    Then use the reelation

    ΔE = (RT/nF)lnK to find your answer, where

    R= 8.314 J K^(-1) mol^(-1)

    T = temperature in Kelvins = 298.15K

    n = number of moles transferred in your balanced equation

    F = 96500 J mol^(-1)

    Plug and chug.

    [Answer: see above]
