  1. pH = -log [H+] = -log (0.0435) = 1.36

    pOH = 14 - pH = 14 - 1.36 = 12.64.

  2. Since HCl is a strong acid, it completely dissociates into H+ and Cl-. So 0.0435 M HCl yields 0.0435 M H+ and 0.0435 M Cl-.

    pH = -log [H+] = -log (0.0435) = 1.36

    pOH = 14 - pH = 14 - 1.36 = 12.64.

  3. For pH, use your calculator.  Enter .0435 and push "log" = -1.36.  Log is minus so change sign to positive = 1.36.

    pOH = 14.0 - pH = 14.0 - 1.36 = 12.64
