Given A=11, B=35, C=3 and D=6.

What is the value of A-(2A+ sqrt{B-CD})/16D.

I get 10.728 is that correct? My online classes says it wrong...

  1. a-(2a + srqt(b-cd) ) / 16d

    11 - (22 + sqrt(35 - 18)/96

    11 -(22 + 4.12311)/96

    11- 26.12311/96

    11 - 0.272116

    10.72788

    You're right.

    However the expression is ambiguous.

    Is it

    11 -(22 + 4.12311)/96

    or is it

    (11 -(22 + 4.12311))/96  ?

    If so.. then

    (11- 26.12311)/96

    -0.15753

  2. A-(2A+ sqrt{B-CD})/16D

    11 - (22 + √(35 - 3*6) / 16*6

The question is where are the parans, ie, what is divided by what.

    First guess

    (11 - (22 + √(35 - 3*6)) / 16*6

    (11 - (22 + √17)) / 96

    (11 - (22 + 4.123)) / 96

    (11 - 26.123) / 96

    -0.1575

    second guess

    11 - ((22 + √(35 - 3*6)) / 16*6

    11 - (22 + 4.123) / 96

    11 - 26.123/96

    11 - 0.2721

    10.727

    there are more...
