A pulley system raises a 100-N weight 5m, whyen the rope was pulled 30m.

a) what is the velocity ratio of this pulley system?

b) how much force was needed to lift the 100-N weight?

  1. a) pulley systems do not have a "velocity ratio" that I know of. Unless you mean the ratio of the speed of the rope at the "pull" end to the speed of the rope at the weight end, which is 6 to one, as the distance ratio is 6 to 1.

    b) raises a 100-N weight 5m, whyen the rope was pulled 30m

    this means the mechanical advantage is 30/5 or 6, which means that a 100/6 or 16 newton force is needed.
