Calculation of Horse Rating?

Anyone knows how Horse Rating is calculated? Or how many points to add or minus after a race? and basing on what factor? Thanks.

  1. a horses rating is calculated on the horses ability .the rating represents a weight value in pounds it is judged that these weights would equalize the abilities of the horses if carried in a theoretical handicap race for example a horse rated 120 would carry 5lb more in a handicap race than a horse rated 115 and so on.


  2. The ratings in each country are compiled by the senior handicapper (as we call him here in GB).  The IFHA compile the worldwide statistics.

    I don't know the exact mathematics involved but they are established according to how far the horse wins the race by.  I think a length equates to 2lbs, but I may well be wrong.
