The Spaniard has voiced his displeasure at the way Los Blancos treated one of the greatest players in the history of the club.
Former Real Madrid president, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 prior to his departure from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Calderon expressed that Raul was one of the most gifted forwards for the Spanish giants and stressed that the veteran striker should have been treated with a greater sense of respect.
The player, who was the captain of the Spanish national side for four odd years, is one of the most cherished players in the history of the Los Merengues.
Raul joined the Spanish capital-based outfit as a 17-year-old and was quick to make a positive impact on the club as a youngster, enough to rise through the ranks in Madrid to become one of the most important players in the squad.
In his seventeen-year long spell with Los Vikingos, the Spaniard made 741 appearances and scored 323 goals for the nine-time European champions. Both, his number of appearances and the number of times he found the back of the net, is a record in the history
of Real Madrid.
However, during the 2009-2010 season, the player’s age started to get the best of him. Suffering from fitness issues and injury problems, the player was sidelined and consequently he fell lower in the pecking order.
After Jose Mourinho was appointed as the new manager of the Whites, Raul expressed his desire to part ways with the club, although the Portuguese mentor wanted otherwise.
Calderon has blamed Madrid’s current president, Florentino Perez, for the way things turned out for the Spanish striker and emphasized that the player should have been valued by the club.
While talking to reporters, the 60-year-old was quoted as saying:
"Raul is Spanish and was described as emotionally cold, but had to be at a German club to demonstrate his warmth and affection."
"His farewell was held in the purest sense of the word, at noon, but it resulted in a false and feigned embrace of the president [Florentino Perez] which could be seen as a small but sharp knife stabbing in the back of the player.”
At the moment, Raul is playing for German side, Schalke 04, and is likely to be on the move again as the summer transfer window approaches.
