Earlier, the Wigan chairman Dave Whelan advised the 38-year old against making a move to Anfield, and thought that he is likely to turn down the post.
However, the Latics defender had a completely different say on the matter, as he viewed the switch to Liverpool as a step forward for Martinez and believed that it was too good an opportunity to turn down.
While talking to reporters, he said: “If the opportunity comes to go to Liverpool, you take it. We all ­understand that. I’m sure he would take it.”
Martinez arrived at the DW Stadium as a manager in June 2009. He has since coached the Latics in 127 matches in all competitions and compiled 34 wins in total.

The Latics were once at the bottom of the league table during the 2011/12 season and the defender admitted that the vexation and discontentment had started to creep into the squad. However, he revealed that Martinez would calm the tempers and frustration
of the players during halftime breaks, which enabled them to secure good results on a number of occasions.
He also caste light on the fact that the Spaniard’s awareness and tactics had helped them mount a phenomenal comeback late on in the season, and he could go on to do wonders at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 with the club’s strong financial position and sound infrastructure.
He added, “Having worked with him and knowing his tactical awareness and the thought he puts into training, then who knows what he could go on and achieve at a big club like Liverpool with their resources.”
