Caleb Ewan wins the final stage, Melissa Hoskins tops the overall classifications of Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012
Caleb Ewan of Team NSWIS won the final stage of Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012, to bag his second tour win this year. He completed the race in a total time of 59 minutes and 45 seconds, while defeating Leigh Howard of Team GreenEdge Cycling and Allan Davis
of Mitchelton Wines.
Despite his brilliant performance during the four-day race, Ewan could not make it to the top of the final general classifications. Allan Davis was declared the overall winner of the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012.
Davis briefed on winning the race, "It's great to finally get the overall win, another one off the bucket list".
He also appreciated Ewan for his all round performance and stated that he is a versatile cyclist who will go far ahead in his career.
Davis secured a total amount of 29 points, whereas Ewan finished one point behind at the second position.
Anthony Giacoppo, Bernie Sulzberger and Chris Sutton grabbed the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Bernie Sulzberger, Nathan Haas and Baden Cooke were the top three players during the first sprint.
Bernie Sulzberger, Wesley Sulzberger and Luke Durbridge dominated the second and the third sprint during the final day of the race.
Ewan commented on the sprint, "Leigh was matching me for a while and I just needed to grind a bit more and once I got around him I had the momentum to win. I was pretty surprised. I thought Allan Davis was going to be leading into the corner but he'd backed
off".
On the other hand, Amanda Spratt helped Team GreenEdge-AIS with the fourth stage win at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012.
Her team member, Melissa Hoskins finished three seconds behind and secured the second position during the final stage of the race.
Melissa Hoskins also managed to win the overall classifications and helped Team GreenEdge-AIS with its first ever tour win.
She secured 32 points after the final general classifications and overcame her colleague, Amanda Spratt, with a lead of 3 points.
Hoskins appreciated the efforts of her teammates as she briefed, "I knew my team would look after me and they did really well".
A well deserved victory for Amanda as she rode brilliantly throughout the tour. She helped the Australian team with its first ever win at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012.
