Caleb Paine hits top spot in Finn class: 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta – Sailing News
A scintillating performance from the very start of the Finn class in the 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta brought America’s Caleb Paine on top of the fleet standings and he was able to claim the class title with 29 points. The US sailor participated in 11 races
during his regatta campaign to compile his final points.
As per regatta a rule, one of 11 races was discarded from the final scores which featured Paine as the winner of the regatta. With this victory, Paine has clinched the 2012 London Olympic Games ticket where he will represent his country.
Paine started with a couple of lower finishes and tumbled down in the standings but still he managed to improve his position after clinching a couple of higher wins. A fifth finish in the fourth race did not trouble his overall position and continued his
journey.
The US sailor hit a couple of bullets in the final three races along with a second and a sixth finish to compile 29 points and win the Finn class title.
Sweden’s Bjorn Allansson was able to claim the second spot with 39 points. The Swedish sailor was not able to win any race but still with the help of some second finishes in the last three races to occupy the second position.
