Caleb Ralph ready to play for Reds in last round of Super Rugby against Chiefs
The All Blacks star player, Caleb Ralph, is ready to take the field for the Queensland Reds in their final clash of the Super Rugby round matches against the Chiefs on June 18. The match has no importance for the Reds and is merely a practice session as
they have already qualified for the semi-final of the championship. The Reds are leading the tables with 62 points under their belt. They have lost just three matches in the whole competition including an upset defeat by the low profiled Australian derby Brumbies.
The Queensland Reds are looking forward to win another title of Super Rugby this season. If Reds lift the Super Rugby trophy, they will become only the second Australian conference to do so. Earlier, Brumbies has done it twice for Australia in 2001 and 2004.
On the other hand, it might be the sixth title for Caleb Ralph as he has done it for his former Super Rugby teams including the Crusaders and Blues.
Ralph started off his Super Rugby career in 1997 and kept on changing teams frequently. In his 14 year long Super Rugby career, before playing for the Australian conference Reds, Ralph has represented three New Zealander derbies including the Crusaders,
Blues and Chiefs.
Talking about his inclusion in the Reds, Ralph said that he was not expecting his name in the Reds squad. He added, "I was right behind the Crusaders but it's a different story this week. I knew there were a few injuries but I wouldn't have thought I'd get
that call. 2008 was my last season so I thought that was put to bed, that part of my career, so it's nice.”
The Reds coach Ewen McKenzie explained Ralph’s inclusion in the side and said, "We can't afford to go younger, we needed to go with more experience. I think we found possibly the most experienced Super Rugby player available. The experienced players can
adapt very quickly, they can walk in and pick up on what's important."
Caleb Ralph would play his first match of the ongoing Super Rugby against the Chiefs before playing the semi-final on July 2, against the qualifying team.
