Caleb’s Posse and trainer Donnie Von Hemel weighing up options while building up to the Breeders’ Cup
After coming out of the Saratoga meet winning two major stakes, including the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes over the 2010 2-year-old champion Uncle Mo, Caleb’s Posse’s connections were a little unsure where to send him early this fall.
However, the challenge of finding their 3-year-old colt the right race and a course shouldn’t be a problem, not when their colt comes off such a good season at Saratoga.
A horse is by default on the list, if entered in the Saratoga season and wins at least one Grade 1 race.
Caleb’s Posse did not disappoint his connections and while doing so, he handed trainer, Donnie Von Hemel, a Grade 1 win at the Spa.
Trainer Donnie Von Hemel trained the colt for McNeill Stables and Cheyenne Stables, and to beat a champion like Uncle Mo, whoud have done his confidence a world of good.
It looks like everything is going good with Caleb’s Posse, as he is over with the well deserved rest he earned after beating Uncle Mo in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes and now it’s business as usual, and the colt is back in training while his connections
find him something suitable.
There is a thick fog, making it unable to determine what would be his next start, but there are plenty of choices and the myriad avenue could take the colt anywhere.
There is one race coming up at Parx Racing on 24 September which is under consideration, the $250,000 Gallant Bob Stakes.
This race could be Caleb’s Posse’s next destination, since the race is run over a distance of 6 furlongs, the same distance over which Caleb’s Posse went on to the win the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga on 1 August, 2011.
Wherever the colt decides to go, shipping would be required and Von Hemel said that it would be necessary to see how he performs after his travels and especially the build up towards the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile will be suitable.
They might require stretching up to longer distances in preparation, or it could be the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, but for now nothing is certain. It is most likely that the races Caleb’s Posse runs, determines his future.
