Caleb’s Posse to take down the cut throat rivalry in the Metropolitan Handicap at the Belmont Park
One of the most thrilling entries for the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap over a mile on dirt is Caleb’s Posse. The race is scheduled for Monday, 28th May at the Belmont Park and contesting for the $750,000 purse.
The fiercest of rivals that he will come across are Shackleford, Jackson Bend and To Honor And Serve. All three of them are equally competitive with numerous significant titles and successes under their belt.
Posse’s four-year-old colt out of mare, Abbey’s Missy, struck his first graded win on 4th June, 2011 in the Grade 3 Ohio Derby at Thistledown over 1 1/16 miles. He was through the wire in a minute and :43.12 seconds.
Qualifying as the runner up was Marco’s Fling and taking up the third slot was Irish Lion.
After ending fourth in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby, Caleb’s Posse did not drive down the third position for the next six races, out of these starts too, he won thrice, scored second twice and ended third once.
On 1st August, 2011 Caleb’s Posse landed the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga over six and a half furlongs. It took him a minute and :15.88 seconds to race through the wire and he was soon accompanied by Redeemed.
Coming at terms with the third position was Wine Police.
Bagging yet another graded win, the Grade 1 King’s Bishop on 27th August at Saratoga over seven furlongs, Caleb’s Posse became triumphant in a minute and :21.59 seconds.
Finishing third in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby on 1st October at Hoosier Park over 1 1/16 miles did not shatter the confidence of Donnie Hemel’s under charge who did not take long to swing back into form.
He won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile Dirt on 5th November at Churchill Downs over a mile, setting Shackleford second and Tres Borrachos third.
Both the outings of the 2012 season have seen the Cheyenne Stables LLC and McNeill Stables owned score second at both the instants.
The last time that he encountered the today’s rivals was on 7th April at Aqueduct over seven furlongs in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap. Jackson Bend took over the driving pace as Caleb’s Posse finished the closest.
He needs to make the most out of the chance today and transform rankings with last time’s winner.
