Calf injury: Safety Troy Polamalu likely in Pittsburgh Steelers versus Philadelphia Eagles – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu has expressed hopes of his comeback to the side for the next weekend game after absence for a pair of games with a calf injury he suffered in the season opener.
The team face Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday (Oct. 07) and the defensive star who returned to practice on Monday said there is a chance he plays in the game.
He said:
"We'll see what happens, but it's been a while since we've all been on the field together. There are some other new faces out there who have been permanent starters, so it's all about how well 11 guys mesh on our defence."
Troy also said it was even more important that the team win their next game and it will depend on how the coach selects the team, irrespective of his fitness or availability. He said:
"We just have to get ourselves on the winning side of things, because nobody cares about losing teams. We just haven't been executing that well, (so) whatever the call is that coach (d**k) LeBeau has made, we just haven't been executing it that well at all."
The Steelers are coming back into action after a bye week and a win will certainly boost their confidence, and also their standing on the American Football Conference (AFC) North division’s points table. The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals are tied
atop the division with three wins each.
A win versus the Eagles will help the Steelers to catch up with them to an extent. The problem is that the team have already lost two of three games and another loss will push them further away from the rivals.
The fitness and form of players like Troy is crucial to their win hopes and chances. The team is already not sure if linebacker James Harrison is going to make it in the next game. He is recovering from a knee surgery and is yet to play a game this season.
Running back Rashard Mendenhall is also to a play game yet. He is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) he suffered last season.
