My brother is 17 years old and drives with his learners (with no insurance and no registration). I'm trying to pursuade him to wait till he gets his class 5 and insure/register his car before he drives anymore but he won't listen. So I was wondering what kind of penalties and/or fines he would face if he got pulled over by police so that I can enlighten him of the consequences. Because he says all he would get is a couple of fines, but it has to be more than just that.

  1. Either your brother is a very brave kid, or he's not very bright. He could get a HUGE fine if he gets caught. First of all, he's driving by himself on a learner's permit. From personal experience I can tell you that it is a big mistake, because I got caught and was not allowed to get my class 5 for two additional years.

Second, he's driving without registration and insurance, he could be looking at fine anywhere from $500-$2000.

Your lil' bro may be have deep pockets, but I'm sure he would like to get his C5 asap. The risk is not worth it.
