Calgary Flames, Jaromir Jagr reported to unite for upcoming season -NHL Free Agency Update
With National Hockey League (NHL) legend, Jaromir Jagr, reportedly going in to test the free agency after Philadelphia Flyers’ general manager, Paul Holmgren, declined on giving a definite answer on resigning the veteran right winger, Calgary Flames have
emerged as the front running team for the upcoming season.
“I haven't spoken to Jaromir or his agent [since] within two days after the season was over,” Holmgren said. “We left it at we would talk later on near the end of June. Again, we don't know what the salary cap is going to be, so there is a lot of variables
that we have to wait on.”
"I think Jaromir brought a lot to the team this year,” Holmgren added, “and I can see him doing the same next year so I would certainly have interest.”
Known to be rumours at the moment, Calgary Flames and Jaromir Jagr uniting for another season could become a reality in the coming days as the team is desperate to improve while Jagr is looking for somewhere to stay.
For Calgary, Jagr will definitely be a huge boost as the team has failed to make the playoffs for the past two seasons straight and can use all the firepower they can get.
The Flames may be opening up more salary cap space as they are reported to let Olli Jokinen go and test the free agent market after he becomes unrestricted on July 1. They will be getting $3 million freed up in this move and could plan on moving Jagr into
the scene.
Jagr made a comeback into the North American major league after multiple seasons in Russia with the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He signed on to Philadelphia Flyers for one-year at $3.3 million and could be aiming for the same or slightly more if he
decides to sign on with another team.
Jagr had a big season last time with Philadelphia as he put 54 points (19 goals, 35 assists) in 73 games played.
For now, there is no telling where Jaromir Jagr will be headed but ruling Philadelphia Flyers out of the scene would not be a smart choice to make.
