Calgary Flames' captain Jarome Iginla takes blame for team missing playoffs -NHL Update
It is not the first time Calgary Flames are missing the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs along with it not being the first time captain, Jarome Iginla, taking blame for the outcome but the veteran forward came out on Monday, April 2, 2012, and did it
once again.
Practically ending up in the same situation they were last season, the 2011-2012 NHL regular season was looking high for the Flames at one point until it all started declining. Once the Calgary team got below five points of tying the eighth place team in
the Western Conference, there was no looking back as the club struggled continuously to get some wins.
Now that Calgary is out for good, the question now is that what Calgary’s plans are for the future.
"I know a lot of us wanted to be better than we were. Playing here, playing in Canada and being out (of the playoffs) for three years, it's not going to be an easy off-season, but they haven't been for the last few years either,” said captain Iginla.
According to some rumours that have been floating around the playoff hungry city are that Iginla will have the ‘C’ for captain removed from his jersey next season and allow someone else to take charge.
"We put ourselves in the position nine games ago to have a shot," Iginla added. "We've been through a lot as a team as far as battling different things throughout the year. We had an opportunity and we didn't make the most of it. We only look at ourselves
and know that we didn't get it done."
Iginla’s performance is definitely not the problem if anyone asks, as the player leads the team with an impressive 66 points (32 goals, 34 assists) this season and remaining even more consistent. He is now just two games away from making it a fifth straight
season in which he has played all 82, definitely one of best records in the league.
Without Jarome Iginla, Calgary is a hollow team, an aspect which has the management wondering what to do unless they acquire some big names during the offseason. Following Calgary during the offseason will be crucial to see how they prepare for next season
and whether they can have a breakthrough year or not.
