Calgary Flames all set to take on the Anaheim Ducks
The Calgary Flames will play host to the fiercely competitive Anaheim Ducks today. The two teams have previously faced each other once out of four meetings, with the Flames winning the first game 3-2 after a fierce shootout battle.
The Ducks were in a comfortable position as they led the game for most of the time and established a two goal lead. However, the Flames managed to fight their way back into the game and scored twice as the regulation time period ended. However, the game
saw a twist in the tale as the Ducks scored in the final shootout period to win the game.
Anaheim had a tough start to the season and they were unable to come across the amount of success that was expected of them. They managed to put in some good performances, but the inconsistency in their game hindered them early on.
The Ducks have found a way back into the play-off position with some recent consistent performances and have climbed their way into the final play-off position in the Western Conference. The team can strengthen their chances to secure a place in the play-offs
if they manage to win in regulation time.
A win in regulation time will also move the Ducks into the seventh position in the Western Conference. The team are currently on a four game road trip out of which they have successfully won two of their games, including a 4-3 victory against the league
leaders the Vancouver Canucks.
"This building has been a nightmare for a lot of teams, so we've got to feel good," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said talking about the Rogers Arena.
Anaheim has played 55 games in the National Hockey League 2010-11 season so far. They have managed to win 30 games in regulation time, 4 games in over-time and have scored 64 points. Calgary have played 56 games out of which they have managed win 28 games
in regulation time, 7 games in over-time and have scored 63 points.
The Flames have been on a roll as they have come up with wins on a regular basis. After a dreadful start to the season where they were almost touching the bottom of the league table, the Flames have been able to put their foot on the gas. They currently
sit eighth in the league table and are in a good position to win the game this time out as well.
The game is expected to be a tough and entertaining encounter with Ducks leading the Flames by a point in the league standings. The fans will be eagerly awaiting the clash of these two exciting teams.
