Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla hits Team Owners hard -NHL Update
It was long anticipated but the Calgary Flames veteran captain finally came out to let the world know what he thinks about the recent lockout that came into play following a failure by the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association failed to work
out a deal between each other.
Jarome Iginla, who has spent all years of his colourful career with the Calgary Flames, termed the franchise owners of the NHL as unworthy of being trusted by players around the league and not really specifically terming one person out.
But who Jarome Iginla did point a finger at was NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, since basically he is the one leading the team of franchise owners on his side and not compromising on any issue of their own while wanting the players to take all the hits.
“Gary said last time, it was a deal that would work for everyone, be a win-win,” Iginla said Thursday. “If you had asked him, ‘Forecast the revenues and will it work?’ He’d have said, ‘Absolutely. This is perfect.”
Iginla also pointed out that the decrease in players share that the league is proposing is just preposterous as it would be $300 million for them since they are asking to cut out the players share of the team revenue by not one percent, but a huge amount
of 10 percent overall.
“It’s not a matter of us trying to get anything back from the owners. We’re trying to find a way to get a deal that, in five years, Gary won’t be coming back and saying, ‘The game is better than ever, but there’s still a few teams (struggling) and instead
of 50%, we want you to take 40%,’ ” Iginla said.
It will definitely be interesting to see how Iginla’s stance influences the entire negotiation process as it seems like he will not be backing down on letting the world know how he feels on the situation.
With the lockout moving into the regular season more realer than ever, players are moving out to continue playing, but no such move has been made by Jarome Iginla as of yet.
