Calgary Flames exchange Keith Seabrook for Jordan Henry with Florida Panthers –NHL offseason Update
Calgary Flames acquired the negotiating rights to defenseman, Jordan Henry, in exchange for Brent Seabrook’s younger brother, Keith Seabrook, on Saturday, July 9, from Florida Panthers.
It was later on learned that Calgary had signed Henry to a two-way deal worth an estimated $600,000 and expect to use him majorly for their minor league affiliate team, Calgary Hitmen.
Henry is yet to play at the National Hockey League (NHL) level, but has played many seasons with minor league teams. For three consecutive seasons from 2003-2006, the 25-year-old defender played with Moose Jaw Warriors, in the Western Hockey League (WHL).
He played 169 games with them and registered a total of 31 points (3 goals, 28 assists).
Calgary Flames hope that Henry will eventually work his way up to the NHL level.
“Jordan Henry is a two-way defenseman who plays with an edge to his game”, said Flames GM Jay Feaster in a statement. “He is a responsible and smart defender, yet he is also adept at joining the rush and pinching down the wall to support the offence. He
is still a solid prospect, and we viewed this trade as an opportunity to give two young players a new start with different organizations”.
From Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, Jordan Henry played his last two seasons with Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League (AHL). He played some of his best games last season with Rochester, registering 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 76 games.
“We look forward to seeing Jordan compete with our other recent depth acquisitions for a spot in our top seven in camp”, GM Feaster added.
Seabrook, a 22-year-old defenseman from Delta, British Columbia, Canada, and a 52nd overall draft pick in round-two of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by Washington Capitals, also has not played in the major league yet.
He played with Calgary Hitmen for two seasons from 2007-2009 and recorded a total of 72 points (19 goals, 53 assists) in 123 games with them.
Last season, Seabrook played 78 games with Abbotsford Heat, which are also Calgary’s affiliate in the AHL, and potted 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists).
Florida as of yet, has not announced whether they have or plan on signing Seabrook.
