Calgary Flames feeling the heat after failed Labour Talks -NHL Lockout Update
Calgary and its players have been on the down low ever since the lockout kicked off earlier in September 15, 2012, and brought the National Hockey League (NHL) to a halt. Now, after nearly three months have gone by and not a single game of professional hockey
played, the Flames are starting to feel the heat.
Jarome Iginla, along with his teammates had chosen not to go abroad during the work stoppage, not only due to spending that extra time off with family and friends close to home, but also to stay active and a part of the labour talks. Seeing how they recently
failed to get a deal done and a new labour deal enforced, Calgary’s players are regretting not having signed on to a foreign club earlier.
“I’ve avoided being optimistic or pessimistic,” Flames’ Matt Stajan said, according to the Calgary Sun. “You can’t guess or hope anymore. When a deal gets done, it’s gonna get done. We’re all hopeful. We all want to play. But there’s a lot that goes into
it.”
The NHL and Players’ Association have tried working out a deal for more than two months now, but all talks failed up until this point with both stakeholders scratching their heads in confusion.
“I’ve been hoping for three months we were going to get back at it, and it sounds like they’ve been working away at it, and that’s great. Hopefully it gets a deal done,” Calgary team captain, Jarome Iginla said.
The Flames have continued to practice during the lockout in various areas of the city as they are off limits to use the Calgary Scotiabank Saddledome due to the lockout and have chosen the University of Calgary ice rink instead of keep sharp in these times
of not being able play professionally.
“It was fun to be out with UofC guys, and good to get closer to a game style,” the captain added.
As of right now, there is no telling what will go down in the next couple of days as the labour union and league, have both run out of ideas on how to bring this lockout to an end.
