Calgary Flames looking forward to Regular Season finally starting with Latest League Offer -NHL Update
Players all around the National Hockey League (NHL) may not be as excited as fans are for the 2012-2013 regular season to finally begin after a long and harsh lockout, which is still persisting at the moment, but the Calgary Flames are definitely one of
those teams that have remained and are still optimistic about things working out.
For them, these negotiations have been valuable in the sense that things which needed to be cleared up have finally been discussed and continue to get solved with each passing day. Skipping or avoiding problems does not solve them and to sit down and talk
is a step in the right direction.
“I’m cautiously optimistic that it’s a start to getting something done in the near future,” Calgary Flames Matt Stajan said over the phone after the NHLPA conference call Tuesday afternoon, according to CalgarySun.com.
“Through this whole negotiation, we’ve made some offers that had real concessions and we feel the owners haven’t done so.”
The next few days are without a doubt the most crucial up until now since all eyes are on the Players’ Association side to see what their next move will be.
“They’ve been trying to hit grand slams, to use a baseball term, so we felt this was something that needed to be done, and hopefully, it’s a start to hammering out a deal in the next short while. People are portraying their offer as more than it really is,
that it’s a lot better than it really is.,” Stajan added.
The first proposal of the NHL was definitely the reason why the lockout has stayed firm up until now while many players, along with Stajan, believe that if their latest offer was the first, things could have worked out much quicker.
A full 82-game regular season is still on the plate for both sides, but that is if they work their differences out before the prospectus deadline, which is set for November 2nd, 2012. They will actually need to get it done before that for the
puck to actually drop, and not doing so will certainly result in more cancellations.
