Calgary Flames looking towards Roman Cervenka for solution at centre point -NHL Update
Calgary Flames have been facing a number of issues for the past few seasons now and with every offseason, it just does not seem like they are trying to get any better, but under general manager Jay Feaster’s leadership, the Flames have made a turnaround this time.
With the inclusion of Dennis Wideman, Calgary Flames have pumped up their offence with a number of physically elite level players. One of the other newer additions is 26-year-old Roman Cervenka.
"Cervenka's more of a one-on-one type, skill-oriented player," assistant general manager/director of player personnel John Weisbrod told NHL.com. "He's played with high-caliber players to much success, and he was at a point in his career where he seemed genuinely hungry to make his run at the NHL. He really wants to play in the best league in the world. I think he is going to put his best foot forward, and we'll see how it pans out."
For the Flames, the former Avangard Omsk player of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) may just be the one that takes over the centre position for the opening line-up and lead the club to a much brighter future.
"This isn't a signing about, 'Let's see if we can help Abbotsford,'" Feaster told Flames TV.
Cervenka is surprisingly one of those few players who catch the eye of a hockey scout somewhere overseas. He was not drafted in the NHL by the Calgary Flames but instead signed on to a deal.
At one point, the young forward had as many as 105 games with 100 points to backup his plans of being an elite layer. For some, Cervenka might not seem like your typical hockey player, but for the Calgary Flames, he is definitely one of the best.
Next season, it seems like Calgary Flames will be playing Roman Cervenka most likely at the spot where he may be able to assist Jarome Iginla in putting up some goals. Only after the training camp will Calgary Flames be officially be able to tell how good the player really is.
Fans can expect him to be playing on opening night.
