Calgary Flames lose Daymond Langkow and Matt Stajan indefinitely
The Calgary Flames have lost centres Daymond Langkow and Matt Stajan to injury for an indefinite length of time.
Langkow has yet to take part in a full practice after suffering a season ending neck injury in March of last year. The veteran is said to be cleared to skate, but is not yet fit enough to take contact. Meanwhile, Stajan suffered a separated shoulder in the
Flames first game of the pre-season against the Vancouver Canucks. Moreover, the club is also reeling from injuries to forwards Rene Bourque and Raitis Ivanans, who were unable to practice on Monday because of minor injuries suffered in training and practice.
Langkow has spent the last five seasons with the Flames and has acted as a productive second line centre for the majority of his career in Calgary. The veteran had an off year last season, dipping below the 20 goal mark for the first time since 2000-2001.
The Flames hope that their off season acquisitions will help to get Langkow back to the top of his game. The fact that the 34-year-old has yet to take contact in practice is likely to mean he will be out for the remainder of the pre-season and perhaps the
early portion of the regular season.
Stajan was acquired in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, which saw Dion Phaneuf sent the other way. Stajan posted his best totals of his career last season and is slated to see time on the club’s first or second line this season. The 26-year-old is not
likely to see any more pre-season action as the Flames will be hoping he is healthy enough to participate in the season opener in October.
Last season split between Toronto and Calgary Stajan tallied 19 goals and 38 assists for 57 points, while Langkow notched 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points.
