Calgary Flames lose fourth straight to St. Louis Blues 3-1 -NHL Update
Calgary just cannot seem to get their act straight as they lost their fourth straight match, this time to St. Louis as the Blues rallied to beat Flames, 3-1, Monday night, February 27, 2012, at the sold-out Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
St. Louis on the other hand, grabbed their third consecutive win, including two in shootouts, making them a team that is ready to tackle any hurdle that comes there way as the playoffs get closer day-by-day.
Jason Arnott of St. Louis picked up two goals and boosted the Blues past Calgary, but termed the victory as an overall combined effort by the team.
"We have a sound team," Arnott said. "It's hard when you have the chemistry going and everybody's contributing, it's hard to break that up and bring somebody new in and Doug probably felt the same way. We've got a lot of depth and a lot of great players
in here so hopefully we can continue it."
Curtis Glencross scored the opening goal for his 19th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season but St. Louis was ready to counter right back.
David Backes levelled the match nearly 10 minutes later and Jason Arnott capitalised on the power play to take the lead at 19:20.
Arnott made the insurance goal early in the second period to ensure a victory for the Blues as their goalie, Jaroslav Halak, went into shutdown mode, blocking all shots made by Calgary in the next 40 minutes.
Calgary needs to get some wins and they know they need them soon if their hoping on making the playoffs this time around.
"I don't think at this time of year there's time for disappointment," Flames forward, Blake Comeau, said.
St. Louis bumped up to the second number spot in the Western Conference with 85 points and surprisingly, is just two points away from tying first place Vancouver Canucks. ‘
Blues have the next against Calgary Flames rival team, Edmonton Oilers, on Wednesday.
Calgary Flames will be kicking off their two-game road trip against Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday, followed by a visit to Anaheim to face the Ducks on Friday.
