Calgary Flames melts the ice as it thrashes St. Louis Blues in a near shutout by 4-1 – NHL Updates
Good news for Calgary Flames’ fans, Flames is back in playoff contention. What was a slow and disappointing season for Calgary became a scene full of fireworks and enthusiasm as Flames emerged victorious going into the match with St. Louis Blues on Wednesday
night.
It was the final game for both teams going into the five day All-Star game break. Adding more inflammable material to the already scorching hot flames is that Calgary has won four consecutive games now and has drastically improved its performance in comparison
to the beginning of the season.
Time to rest now? Moss certainly thinks so.
"Going into the break, we wanted to give ourselves a chance to be in the hunt and we are now", said spontaneous player, David Moss.
David Moss who deserves to be called “The Man of The Match”, performed as no one thought he would.
Making the most of both power-plays, Moss scored twice and assisted one goal during the game. This is his fourth game where he’s scored double goals in twelve matches.
Miracles for Calgary over and over again
Adam Perry, Flames’ defenseman, a low scorer due to his position, scored the fourth goal of his career and first of the season while captain, Jerome Iginla, got the chance to record his contribution on an open wide net when Blues’ Erik Johnson embarrassingly
rebind a shot played by Flames into his own net.
Flames is only behind three teams by two points making a tie for seventh place in the conference, now standing at 10-3-3 in its last 16 games.
The confidence kept rising as these players weren’t the only ones making the most of match.
Flames’ goalie, Mikka Kiprusoff, made 28 brilliant saves, letting only one through by the son of former NHL enforcer, Basil McRae, Phillip McRae.
Kiprusoff was hoping for a shutout until being disappointed with just over 12 minutes to go in the match.
Just two points shy of a playoff spot, Calgary Flames needs to continue this streak or it just might put the fire out.
But it wasn’t all fun and games for St. Louis.
Blues has now lost four in a row and want to take this opportunity to rest and review where it went wrong and stop continuing to head in the wrong direction.
Erik Johnson, extremely embarrassed by his blooper, sat on St. Louis’ benches, shaking his head while replays played again and again on the big screens causing the sold out fan attendance of over 19,000 in the Scotiabank Saddledome to roar with joy.
