Calgary Flames plays host to Vancouver Canucksin the fourth of the six scheduled meetings between the two
Calgary Flames will host league leaders, Vancouver Canucks, at the Scotiabank Saddledome this Saturday.
This will be the fourth game between the two teams out of the six meetings scheduled to take place between the two teams this season.
Each of the teams has won two games each which makes this series all the more exciting. In their last game, Canucks came up with decent display which saw them winning the game 4-2 with Mikael Samuelsson scoring the winning goal.
Both teams are in hot form coming up with wins. It isn’t surprising for Canucks as they have dominated games throughout the period while Flames have come up from the dead.
They were struggling in the middle part of the season for which they stayed out of the playoff cut. However, now they look to win and score important points in order to cement their position in the Conference so that they stay in the playoffs.
Flames are finally a little out of the playoff battle but are in the midst of a fourth, fifth and sixth spot battle.
Canucks have good memories when they came to play Flames last time. This was the first game between the two sides which saw Canucks thumping Flames 7-2.
Flames played Phoenix Coyotes in their last game this past Thursday. This was the game that could have moved Flames in the fifth spot.
However, Coyotes came up with a brilliant shutout performance that saw them winning the game 3-0 in the end. Flames had a lot of positives to take from the game. This was only the second loss in as many as 12 games with not scoring in a game since 19th
of January.
"We have to move past this one, and get ready for Vancouver," Flames’ coach, Brent Sutter, said. "We did not have enough around the net to get second and third opportunities. Right now, every game is a challenge because so many teams are battling for playoff
spots."
Flames have played 70 games during the season so far out of which they have won 36 games in regulation time and nine games in overtime to score a total of 81 points.
Canucks, on the other hand, have played 69 games out of which they have won 44 games in regulation and nine games in overtime and scored a total of 97 points.
The last game that Canucks played against Sharks was one of the most exciting games in the season.
Sharks and Canucks scored goals every now and then which resulted in the scores level on 4-4 at the end of regulation time.
However, Canucks won the game by 5-4 after a shootout to win their fourth consecutive game on a five-game road trip.
"There were a couple of points there in the second and third where I was pretty tired," said Schneider. "But I just tried to hold the fort and give us a chance to win and we got some big goals late and held on there at the end."
