Calgary Flames rebound against Vancouver Canucks 3-2 -NHL Update
Calgary set Vancouver back by two points from clinching the Western Conference top spot as the Flames rebounded against Canucks to win, 3-2, Thursday night, April 5, 2012, at the sold-out Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
It was Calgary’s and Vancouver’s second matchup between each other with the Flames having lost the last in overtime, they were determined to fight back despite having been eliminated from the playoffs.
Canucks denied Flames a postseason chance by killing off their hopes in the last match and this time, Calgary was hopeful of keeping them from winning the Presidents’ Trophy.
"To be completely honest, I couldn't care less about playing spoiler," Flames’ Mike Cammalleri said. "I don't think they're as concerned about us as we think they might be and we don't need to be as concerned about them. For us, we just want to worry about
our team and get into a good feeling of playing better hockey and getting ready for next season."
Mike Cammalleri’s two goal outbreak in the third and final period of regulation led the team to their win while Curtis Glencross added the cherry on top nearly midway through.
Alex Burrows had kicked off the scoring with his 28th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season on a shorthanded situation with Samuel Pahlsson missing with a minor penalty.
Jannik Hansen made it a one point game after Calgary’s three point shooting spree with less than four minutes remaining but Vancouver failed to get the equaliser in the remaining time.
The stadium was filled with fans supporting both sides as Canada is just basically yearning for the Stanley Cup to come back where it all started noting a 40-year-long championship drought.
"Tonight you got the fans that kind of said, 'We're with you no matter what,' and the die-hards really came out," added Cammalleri.
Calgary Flames have the next at home to end the season off against Anaheim Ducks. Vancouver on the other hand, has intentions of gaining the two points in their season finale against Edmonton Oilers on Saturday and should be able to get the job done easily.
