Calgary Flames set to tie Colorado Avalanche for final playoff spot on Tuesday -NHL Update
Calgary might be the underdog team going up against Colorado on Tuesday night, March 20, 2012, but the Flames should definitely not be underestimated in any case as they hope to intensify their playoff push against Colorado when the two teams meet at the
Pepsi Center in Denver.
Calgary is just two points away from tying Colorado for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference and by the way Flames have managed to comeback recently, seeing that happen should not be a surprise.
Flames barely lost to Columbus Blue Jackets in their previous overtime matchup and giving up the extra point was something they definitely did not want.
"We're not satisfied," Calgary’s centre, Matt Stajan, said. "We're not here happy we got one point. We left a point on the table. That's our own fault. That's on us. There's nothing we can do now.”
Jarome Iginla has always been the deciding factor for Calgary and him teaming up with Olli Jokinen could have miraculous results for the playoff yearning Flames team.
"Obviously, it's a playoff game, it's a team ahead of us in the standings and as it stands right now, it's a game we ... have to win," defenseman, Mark Giordano, added.
Colorado will certainly not be going into the contest taking Calgary easy in any situation, making the matchup even more exciting to watch. Avalanche knows that by winning their upcoming games is only a win-win situation as they push to secure their last
playoff spot even further.
"The next three games are huge, especially this one with Colorado," Lee Stempniak said. "It's a team we're battling and it's going to be pivotal in the standings."
Flames are back in the same position they were last season, just barely below the playoff divisional line, and not making the race back then, Calgary is determined to get back now or never.
Avalanche goalie, Semyon Varlamov, has been playing great for Colorado in front of the net and could give Calgary a tough time in scoring some goals.
The Tuesday night matchup between Calgary and Colorado is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM ET.
