Calgary Flames thinking big for Roman Cervenka, award him No. 10 jersey -NHL Update
Roman Cervenka only wanted one thing after securing a spot in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Calgary Flames over this year’s offseason, and that was to wear a jersey with the number 10 on it.
General Manager of the Calgary Flames, Jay Feaster, made it happen for the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) player as they awarded him with the number 10 jersey during a press conference on Wednesday at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
For Cervenka, 10 is his lucky number and not just for one reason, but for many.
“I was born on the 10th (of December). I’ve played always with 10, since I was a kid,” Cervenka said through his agent, Ales Volek. “My father also played with 10. “I feel well with this number on my back and I’m happy if I can have it.”
Flames definitely have high hopes for the young centre player for the upcoming 2012-2013 NHL regular season as they showed it by signing Cervenka on to a one-year, $925,000 entry-level deal with $2.85 million as potential bonuses and an amount of $92,500
for signing it alone.
Seeing the city of Calgary and feeling the passion for hockey in this city, Cervenka feels right at home and hopes that this sort of environment will allow him to perform his fullest along with fulfilling the high expectations of the Flames management.
“After my first two days in Calgary, I have to say that I can see that this is a hockey town. Everything I heard about it — that the town is filled with hockey — (is true) and I’m very, very happy,” Cervenka said. “I’m really looking forward to playing for
Calgary.”
GM Jay Feaster continued to reassure the media about his support for the young Czech Republic player along with expressing that they believe him to be NHL-ready and most likely to play next season in the major league.
The contract is risk-free, being a one-year deal, along with the fact that a number of leaders have also been added on the squad like Dennis Wideman and Jiri Hudler, so Roman Cervenka should not be lacking in any department when the time comes to perform.
