Calgary Flames veteran forward Jiri Hudler hurt while playing in KHL -NHL Update
The worst case scenario just became a reality for the Calgary Flames as one of their major investments of the offseason was hurt during an exhibition matchup in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
Former Detroit Red Wings centre and newly signed Calgary Flames forward, Jiri Hudler is reported to have suffered an abdominal injury while playing for the Lev Praha and has also been released in terms of his contract by the Czech Republic franchise.
Hudler signed on with the Calgary Flames to a four-year, $16 million contract during the offseason, something that was seen to be a major blow to the Detroit Red Wings offensive line-up.
A Russian news agency also added another very important piece of information as they stated that Hudler will need at least one month to recover from the muscle injury after he played in four games for Lev Praha with one assist and no goals to his name.
“I don’t treat it now it only gets worse,” Hudler told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. “The pain isn’t unbearable but bothers me. Mainly limits mobility.”
If the lockout hopefully comes to an end earlier than expected, saving the regular season, Calgary fans will not be able to see the veteran perform any time soon and will need a minimum of four weeks to get back to normal.
Hudler is a 28-year-old native of Olomouc, Czech Republic and was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings as the 58th overall back in round-two of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
In the seven seasons he has performed with the Detroit Red Wings, Hudler has picked up 409 games and registered 214 points (87 goals, 127 assists) along with 160 minutes in the penalty box.
Last season was one of his best in recent years as he made a comeback from the 2010-2011 regular season by making 50 points (25 goal, 25 assists) in 81 games played.
There is no report on when Jiri Hudler will be making a comeback to North America and whether he will return to Calgary first, but updates should be expected in the upcoming weeks.
