Calgary Flames win 3-1 against Nashville Predators
Calgary Flames played host to the Nashville Predators at Scotiabank Saddledome with 19000 fans in attendance to witness the 730th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
The match was very tight and tough, which saw the Calgary Flames being the more productive of the two sides on the night. The match was evenly matched by both teams but it was Calgary Flames, who emerged as 3-1 winners.
Calgary Falmes winger,Alex Tanguay, was named the star selection of the match for his two important assists.
Quite similar to previous strategies employed by the teams, this was another game, which saw the teams making a cautious start and not attacking from the beginning. Both teams waited for chances to come their way.
But the different thing about this game was the fact that chances that came were rare and those which came were difficult to score from.
Early on in the period, there were absolutely no chances for teams to score but the game opened up a little with the passage of time.
Calgary Flames had the momentum swing in their favour and scored through Curtis Glencross from a decent strike in the 11th minute. After this there were a few more scoring chances for both sides but no further goals were scored.
The period ended with Calgary Flames leading 1-0 as the teams went into the break. During the course of the period Calgary Flames made 8 goal attempts while the Nashville Predators made 6 goal attempts.
Nashville Predators were stronger in the second period and attacked from the start and looked to score as soon as possible. Their defence was very tight at the start of the proceedings and with some excellent combinations upfront, the away side levelled the scores through David Legwand in the 11th minute.
However, Calgary Flames didn’t take long to get back into the lead. Some brilliant combinations coupled with superb finishing by Jarome Iginla in the 14th minute resulted in the Flames getting back into the lead.
Calgary Flames dominated the game after taking the lead and didn’t give the Predators any space. The defence was superb, which restricted the Predators to their half only. The period ended with no further goals and with the Calgary Flames on top.
The scores showed Calgary Flames leading 2-1. During the 20 minutes of play, Calgary Flames made 14 goal attempts while Nashville Predators made 7 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw Nashville Predators start stronger than their opponents once again. They had several chances to score but unfortunately it was the Calgary Flames, who scored to seal the match.
The goal was a result of a counter attack, which saw Brendan Morrison scoring through a decent strike in the 15th minute.
The period saw Predators trying desperately to score but they couldn’t and the match ended with Calgary Flames winning 3-1. The final period saw Flames making 5 goal attempts while Nashville Predators made 11 goal attempts.
