Calgary Flames win second against Edmonton Oilers 2-1 -NHL Match Update
Edmonton and Calgary might have gotten the start they wanted to the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) season but they certainly do not plan on giving up hope any time soon.  Flames made an impressive comeback against the Oilers on Tuesday, October 18,
2011, at the sold-out Scotiabank, Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Both teams had nearly equal the attempts at scoring throughout the match as Edmonton and Calgary took 25 and 28 shots respectively. Miikka Kiprusoff was in net for the Flames and managed to block 24 of the 25 attempts while Edmonton’s, Devan Dubnyk, was
short of two.
Calgary and Edmonton lost Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond and Ben Eager respectively early in the first period due to a misconduct and were awarded a 10-minute major penalty. The Flames lost another player, Tim Jackman, at the 6:15 mark for high sticking,
giving the Oilers a 4-on-3 man advantage.
Tom Gilbert took advantage of that added man opportunity and potted his first 27 seconds Jackman was ejected off the ice with a minor, on an assist from Corey Potter and Shawn Horcoff.
Both teams gave two more penalties in the second period but were unable to take advantage of any, as the home crowd scooted to the edge of their seats as their team was entering the final period of regulation down by one.
As the period progressed over the midway mark, hope was slowly beginning to diminish as Calgary failed to score and even tie the match.
The Flames took control of the puck after Curtis Glencross gave it away in their defensive zone with Olli Jokinen moving towards the net and finding Jay Bouwmeester open in the opposing end for  a wrist shot from 22-feet and scoring to level the match with
less than six minutes to play.
89 seconds later, Cory Sarich missed on his attempt from midway ice, which was blocked by Dubnyk, but Alex Tanguay stood ready by the net and as the puck bounced of the Edmonton goalie onto the nets side, he tapped it in to take the lead, which would eventually
become the game-winner.
Calgary Flames stay at home for the remainder of the month as they face-off against New York Rangers on Thursday. Edmonton Oilers will also return home for the next four matchups as they host Minnesota Wild on the same day.
