Calgary Flames wins 2-1 against Colorado Avalanche while on the road at Avalanche’s home
Colorado Avalanche played host to Calgary Flames at the Pepsi Center in Colorado this past Sunday. The game saw Avalanche playing the spoilers’ role while Flames was looking to win and score crucial points to close the gap on eighth placed Chicago Blackhawks.
The game started with both teams piling up a few shots on goal early on but they weren’t successful in finding the back of the net.
The second period saw Avalanche exploding as it fired shots on goal every now and then but it couldn’t score.
Flames, on the other hand, made less but threatening attacks which resulted in them scoring the lone goal of the period to get into the lead.
The final began with Flames stacking up decent shots on goal which saw it doubling its lead. Avalanche also scored in the period to cut the lead to a single goal but there were no further goals as Flames emerged as 2-1 winners of the game.
Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames’ goalkeeper, was named the star of the game as he made 34 saves during the game.
Both teams made a decent start which saw them coming across several scoring chances right from the start of the game, but they were unable to benefit from the early chances they came across.
The passing and shooting at the start was also strong but the defence of both teams easily dealt with all this. The period moved on with both teams coming up with the occasional shots on goal. However, there were no goals in the period. Avalanche made 10
shots on goal while Flames made 11 shots on goal by the end of the first period.
The second 20 minutes of play began with Avalanche piling up shots on goal every now and then but it was Flames who scored the opening goal through Olli Jokinen’s well placed flick shot.
Avalanche continued to dominate the proceedings even after falling behind by a goal but there were no goals in the period as the period ended with Flames leading by 1-0.
During the course of the period, Colorado made 18 shots on goal while Calgary made 12 shots on goal.
The final period began with both teams less on confidence but they got better with the passage of time. Resultantly, Flames scored through Alex Tanguay from a decent strike to double its lead in the eighth minute.
Colorado also scored in the 15th minute through Milan Hejduk’s well placed flick shot. Unfortunately, this was all it could manage as the period and the game ended with Flames winning by 2-1 in the end.
