Calgary Flames wins 4-2 against the Dallas Stars to stay in touching distance with play-off spot

The Calgary Flames hosted the second last game of Wednesday as they were up against the Dallas Stars. The game took place at the Scotiabank Saddledome with both teams looking to come up with a win considering the tight race in the Western Conference. The
third to ninth teams in the Conference are separated by just two points.
The game was evenly balanced with both teams scoring during the course of the first two periods and the scores were level going in the final period. However, Flames were able to step up their game and scored twice in the final period to emerge as 4-2 winners
of the game. Mark Giordano, defenseman of the Flames was named the start selection of the game with an assists and good work at the back.
Flames emerged very strong in the first period. They not only attacked and came up with scoring chances but defended really well. They cut down attacks regularly and restricted the opposition to their half for most of the period.
It didn’t take long as the Flames scored through Olli Jokinen in the 5th minute from a simple tip in shot to get into the lead. Flames continued with the dominating offence but unfortunately weren’t able to find the back of the net. The period

During the first 20 minute of play, Flames made 16 goal attempts while the Stars could manage just 3 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Stars coming out strong offensively and they maintained a decent defence. The Stars with the strong offence scored through Mike Ribeiro from a flick shot in the 8th minute to successfully level the scores. Stars continued
to pile pressure and successfully took the lead with the goal scored by Jamie Langenbrunner from a decent strike in the 11th minute.
Flames were able to come up with a little resistance which saw them scoring through Tom Kostopoulos during power play from a tip in shot to level the scores once again. The goal was scored in the 15th minute after which nothing much was seen offensively
by the Stars.
The period didn’t see any further goals and ended with the scores level on 2-2. During the 20 minutes of play Stars made 10 goal attempts while Flames 5 goal attempts.
The final period started off with both teams attacking. There were shots on goal right from the word go. Resultantly, Flames scored through Cory Sarich in the 3rd minute from a quick fired shot to get into the lead. The Flames kept on piling the
pressure and doubled the lead with a goal in the 5th minute scored by the Steve Staios from a powerful strike.
Both teams continued with the attacks and shots on goal but they weren’t able to find any further goals. The period and the game ended with the Flames winning 4-2 in the end.
