Calgary Flames wins 4-3 against the Dallas Stars after shootout -NHL Recap
The second last game of Wednesday was played at the American Airlines Center as the home team Dallas Stars played host to Calgary Flames.
The game was important for both sides as they looked to maintain their spot in the play-off cut.
However, the Flames were desperate to notch up a win considering the fact that they occupy the final position in the play-off cut.
The Flames started on fire as they came up with some brilliant pieces of play. They not only constructed brilliant plays but also scored thrice during the first period.
They led 3-1 as the second period started but the Stars manage to fight back and score a goal in each of the periods to level the scores.
The game went into overtime but no goals were scored. However, the Flames managed to win the game 4-3 after shootout.
Curtis Glencross of the Flames was named the star of the game as came up with an important assist.
Though both teams made a decent start to the game, but it was the Flames who were red hot and scored in the 11th minute through Rene Bourque to get into the lead.
Flames didn’t give their opposing team any space after a slow start and scored once again in the very next minute.
The goal which doubled the lead was scored by Tom Kostopoulos from a well placed flick shot.
Flames were absolutely relentless on the attacks and scored once again in the 14th minute with Anton Babchuk scoring from a powerful strike.
The Stars also came up with quite a few shots on goal but they weren’t able to find the back of the end.
Stars managed to grab a goal in the 19th minute through Jamie Benn during power play. The period ended with the Flames leading 3-1 as they made 10 shots on goal while the Stars made 8 goal attempts during the period.
The second was totally dominated by the Stars and they capitalized from this scoring early in the period. The goal was scored by Mike Ribeiro from a decent strike in the 6th minute.
The period saw the Stars bombarding shots on goal but they couldn’t find the back of the net.
The period ended with the Flames leading 3-2 as the period ended with the Flames making just four goal attempts during the period while the Stars made 15 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both teams coming out strong and it looked as if it was going to be a goals fiesta.
However, this wasn’t the case as the Stars once again scored the only goal of the period which was scored by Tomas Vincour from a decent strike.
The period and regulation time ended with the scores level on 3-3.
The game went into overtime but no goals were score there and it was the Flames who won the game 4-3 after shootout.
