Calgary Flames wins 5-2 against the Ottawa Senators after trailing at the end of the first period

One of the interesting games of Wednesday was the Calgary Flames playing host to the Ottawa Senators. The game was played at the Scotiabank Saddledome and was the 8113th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
Calgary Flames scored the first the first goal of the game after which Ottawa Senators bagged two goals to lead at the end of the period.
However, Flames managed to make their way back into the game and scored three more goals during the remaining two periods to win 5-2 in the end. Anton Babchuk of Calgary Flames was the player of the game with his goal and two assists.
Both teams made a very strong to the game firing shots right from the word go and coming up with excellent pieces of play in doing so. There were several easy chances for both teams early on but they weren’t able to capitalize from them so no goals were
scored.
As the period progressed the attacks got better until finally the Calgary Flames scored the first goal of the game in the 9th minute. The goal was scored by Tim Jackman from a brilliant strike. However, it didn’t long for the Ottawa Senators to
come up with a goal as they scored in the very next minute through Chris Kelly from a quick fired shot that caught the goal keeper off guard and level the scores.
Ottawa Senators continued to pile pressure on the Flames which resulted in them scoring once again to get into the lead in the 11th minute. The goal was scored by Chris Campoli’s long range strike. The period saw both teams making a couple of
goal attempts as the period neared its end.
There weren’t any further goal as Ottawa Senators led 2-1 with the period ending. During the period Ottawa Senators made 12 goal attempts while Flames made 16 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Senators start off on the same dominating roads but they weren’t successful in scoring this time out. The Senators offence was very strong but the Flames defence did an excellent job.
Coupled with this was the fact that Flames got stronger and stronger offensively as the period progressed. The home team managed to score a goal in the 14th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Olli Jokinen from a simple tip in shot.
A few minutes later, the home crowd was set wild as Flames scored once again through Curtis Glencross to get into the lead.
The period ended with Calgary Flames leading 3-2 as they made 10 goal attempts in the period while Ottawa Senators made 7 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of the game were pretty much evenly matched by both the sides in terms of goal attempts and the plays they constructed. However, both teams missed several scoring chances in the period.  
Calgary Flames extended their lead with a goal in the 9th minute scored by Anton Babchuk from a brilliant long range powerfully struck shot. Ottawa Senators started to attack with full force but this didn’t work and Flames managed to score once
again in the 16th minute through Tim Jackman to seal the win.
The period ended with Senators making 7 goal attempts while Flames made 9 goal attempts. The score at the end was 5-2 in favour of the Calgary Flames.
