Calgary Flames wins 6-0 against the St. Louis Blues with a brilliant shutout performance - NHL Recap
The St, Louis Blues hosted the Calgary Flames at the Scottrade Arena this Tuesday.
Flames needed to win the game if they wanted to stay in the play-off cut while the St. Louis Blues needed to win so as to recover from their last defeat.
The Flames scored the only goal of the first period and led at the end. There were no goals in the second period but the Flames stepped up their pace in the final period.
They completely outplayed their opponents scoring five times during the final 20 minutes of play to win the game 6-0 in the end.
Jarome Iginla was named the star of the game as he scored two goals and made an assist.
The Blues made a decent start to the game which saw them creating chance for themselves right from the start. The Flames also got stronger with the passage of time and their passing and shooting got even better as time passed in the period.
After the middle part of the period, the Flames started to come up with potential goal scoring chances.
It took a long time for the goal to be scored but the Flames finally scored in the 19th minute through Alex Tanguay from a well placed shot to get into the lead.
Both teams ended the period with shots on goal but none of them found a way past the goal keepers as the period ended with the Flames leading 1-0. During the course of the period, the Flames made 16 goal attempts while the Blues made 7 goal attempts.
The second period was more of a defence dominated as the teams were on the back foot throughout the course of the period.
There were attacks and plays constructed by both teams but they weren’t able to find the back of the net.
Blues emerged stronger of the two teams as the period neared its end but they still couldn’t score. The period ended with the Flames still leading 1-0 with Flames making six goal attempts during the period while the Blues made 7 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes saw the Flames turn the tables and come up with a gem of a performance. They scored two goals in quick succession in the 5th and 8th minutes respectively.
The goals were scored by Jarome Iginla from a powerful strike and David Moss during power play from a simple tip in shot.
Flames' captain was again in action as he scored once again in the 11th minute from another powerful strike.
The Flames constantly piled pressure on the opposing team which resulted in them scoring once again in the 14th and 20th minute.
The 14th minute goal was scored by Robyn Regehr from a decent strike while the final goal of game was scored by Niklas Hagman.
The Flames won the game 6-0 in the end. During the course of the final period the Flames made 8 goal attempts while the Blues made 11 goal attempts.
