Calgary goes up in Flames in the second half of the National Hockey League’s 2010-2011 season
Calgary is a beautiful and lively city where people are always pumped up about supporting their home team, Calgary Flames, but it seems since last season that the team has been devoured by its own flames.
It’s been a number of games now, that Calgary hasn’t been seen in the limelight. Currently, it holds the second last position in the Northwest Conference above Edmonton.
That is something which gives Calgary a little extra push, knowing that it is above its rivals.
Being the land of hockey, Canada overall has been performing poorly with the exception of Vancouver Canucks, as compared to other franchises around the world.
"A lot of people don't think we can do it, but we think we can", said Calgary Flames’ centre, Brendan Morrison.
Calgary Flames has great players and is in top shape to perform much better than it is right now. An example is Flames’ captain, Jerome Iginla, who has been playing for over 13 years. He is one of the best around, along with Robyn Regehr, Brendan Morrison
and Craig Conroy.
Confidence in the team can be seen rising, as Calgary Flames is playing exceptionally well this season. With impressive victories over Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks, both divisional heads, it is fairly easy to say that Calgary Flames is coming out of
the ashes and is ready to heat things up this season.
"I just wanted this team to work hard and compete and we're doing that right now", Calgary’s former General Manager, Darryl Sutter, said after Saturday night's heart stomping 4-3 shootout win in Vancouver against Canucks.
In the past 14 games, Calgary Flames has a much better record than they had past season, 8-3-3.
Calgary’s coach, Brent Sutter, can be seen motivating the players and hoping to clinch a playoff spot this season.
Flames’ new interim General Manager, Jay Feaster, who assumed charge last month, has told the players to enjoy themselves and to earn victories. He wants to hear the music whenever he walks by the locker rooms.
Some people say that change in the team is due to the new GM who has changed the players, and showed them that how they perform affects the job of the GM.
However, others give credit to Feaster for having a more relaxing and realistic approach to the game. Darryl Sutter the former GM of Calgary Flames has been greatly appreciated by the team and many players have said that he can never be forgotten.
"Yeah, I mean, he was a big part of a lot of the guys being here, he brought most of us in here", said Calgary’s Mark Giodarno. "You hate to see a guy that went to bat for you get let go".
As long as Calgary Flames keeps performing the way it has been performing this second half of the season, Darryl Sutter will have no regrets having been the GM of Calgary Flames.
