Hi,

If I were to buy a calibration disk to calibrate my LCD. Will this calibrate my DVD player to TV only? How will this calibrate my example cable box to TV picture, color etc.?

Thanks

  1. Yes this will only calibrate sources able to play the disc. However, other sources, provided you turn off all video "enhancements" in their settings should be fairly accurate. Now with devices being connected digitally, calibrating to one source should technically calibrate ALL digital sources.

  2. Basically it will calibrate the DVD setting, but write those results you get for Color, Hue, Tint, Brightness and Contrast down on a piece of paper, then when you go into other settings, like TV, you can plug those numbers from the DVD setting and tweak from there if needed.

  3. Or skip the calibration disc altogether and do a search on a hi-def forum (I like AVS forum)  for "Sharp LC52D64U settings" or whatever model of TV you have.  The people on AVS are usually fairly knowledgable and often list the settings they have their TVs set to.  Some of them acheived their settings via one brand of calibration disc, some via a different brand of calibration disc, and some via professional calibration.  Find 4 or 5 different sets of settings and experiment with them at home to see which one you like best.  I did this with the 4 big screens I have at home and they all look WAY better than they did out of box and without calibration disks or a professional.  Good luck.
