Califonia dmv ??!!?

Question

ok so im 16 bout to be 17 on july 29 my dad promised he'll get me a car when i get straight A's ha! finally happened i think he thought it wouldnt ... but now hes starting to come up with excuses to not get me a car ... i took the classes last november and i have everything to go get my permit but i still have to take the test at the DMV but this will only allow me to drive with a 25 year old and my friend told me that theres a another permit that will allow me to drive from skool to home is this true?? i need help what should i do? i need a car asap

Nothing, if you only have a permit you cant drive without someone 25 or older.

Once you have your license you will not be able to drive with another minor in the car but you can drive yourself.

no there isn/t a permit for that. i think you should wait, i can drive but i won't cuz of gas prices!

Here's the official word from the DMV:

You can get a Provisional License and yes, you have to have a licensed driver driver 25 in the vehicle

It is possible to get a permit similar to what you asked about, it's called a Junior Hardship Permit and they are not easy to get. Basically no one else in the house can have the ability to drive, there can no close-by public transportation and so on.

So, if you live way out in the country with your invalid grand-parents, have to drive twenty miles through the snow to get to school every day, drive the farm truck to the feed lot every week and take your folks to their doctor's appointments every week because you're the only one in the entire family who can drive well then you might have a shot at it.

Dad should honor his promise to you....but don't be picky about the type of car he picks out for you. Not too many young people get their first car bought for them. I had to sling bugers at the local DQ for 2 summers to buy my first POS car. Not sure about the Cali DMV regs, give them a call and I'm sure they can give you an answer. Good luck and drive safe,

*You must obey the traffic laws

*You must drive without a collision

*You must drive with your parent, guardian, spouse, or an adult 25 years of age or older, who has a valid California driver license.

*You must hold your permit for six months before you can take your driving test to get your driver license.

those are the requirements and limitations of a driver's permit in california. it doesn't say anything about being able to drive to school by yourself. but hey, i always drove by myself when i was a senior, never got in trouble
