  1. The Agricultural Pilot program in CA, OR, and WA is a supplement to pilot training.  You must have a Commercial Certificate to enter the program.

The program consists of a few hours of flight time and some classroom instruction, and is issued by private schools rather than the FAA.  It is an environmental protection credential, rather than a flight credential.  Testing is an integral part of the program, performed by the school.

    Good luck.

  2. Once an operator is certain that a pilot possesses the necessary attitude and skills, the pilot may be given applications of seed and fertilizer. As a pilot’s aerial skills increase, he/she may earn the opportunity to make applications of crop protection products. Licensed as an Apprentice Pilot with the DPR, all of these applications are made under the direct supervision of an experienced pilot/commercial applicator. After 250 hours of flight time under this supervision, a pilot may take the DPR’s Journeyman Pilot test.

The State of California's web site says you only need 150 hours of flight time

    Pest Control Aircraft Pilot Certificate....

Comments: There are two certificates issued to pest control aircraft pilots. The first certificate issued is an Apprentice......

After working as an apprentice pilot for one year, and meeting the experience requirement of 150 hours of fixed-wing experience or 50 hours of helicopter experience, the apprentice pilot may apply for a Journeyman Pilot Certificate. The Journeyman Pilot Certificate is issued by the state to pilots who have passed the Journeyman Pilot Examination.
