Question:

California Cell Phone law about to take effect...?

I know it has already passed in some states but do you think it really makes a difference? Does talking on the phone while holding it to your ear make you a worse driver rather than when you are looking at the phone to text or dial? That's when I see people not looking at the road.

Just curious.

Thanks

  1. Just FYI, it already has taken effect. You will be cited if you are caught.

I'm actually a NV resident, but I commute to Cali almost every weekend to see my BF. And I talk on the phone while driving ALL the time, and i haven't been involved in any accidents while doing so... so I understand where you are coming from.

Unfortunately, the statistics show... you have heard this before. So that's why it is a law. I guess we just have to deal.

  2. yeah it will a lot less people will be using their phone while driving but of course there will be some people who will do it anyway.

  3. Yes I understand what you mean and the law that is in place is a joke because you are still being distracted with the use of the hands free device........................

  4. It's not that you are using the phone.  The danger is the distraction.  You are focused on your discussion and not on driving.  Most people cannot check their mirrors, monitor their speed, watch out for other drivers, and not be a danger to others when they are having a conversation that requires your attention.

  5. .

Well a cell phone is not sold as a safety feature on a car to my knowledge.....

All distractions, cell phone, children, loud music, psychedelic drugs, should be turned off, muzzled, muted and stashed away IMHO, to concentrate on the important task of driving.

  6. I hadn't been in an accident in 20 years, last year I was involved in 2 accidents with cell phone yapping fools.  One at a stop light - I was stopped and he was yapping away and ran right into me.  The other at a railroad crossing, I was stopped and he backed up into me because "Well, ya weren't back there last time I looked" - also yapping on his cell phone.  YES, it makes a difference - people should dial or text either.
