California Drivers License Question?

Hello everybody,

I have dual citizenship. Live part time California part time Norway. Can I use my California Drivers License In Norway or will I have to renew it over there ?

  1. I believe gomanyes is on the right track.  Under US law, drivers licenses are based upon residence, not citizenship, and you can be a resident of only one place.  If you have a CA drivers license, that would indicate that you are a CA resident.  If Norwegian law is the same as US law, you can drive in Norway with your CA license.  But, just to make sure, check with your consulate.


  2. Depends on Norway's laws, but most countries allow "nonresidents" to use their foreign licenses.  If you work or own property in Norway, you may be classified as a resident and have to get a Norwegian license.

  3. I believe you would have to renew it, I'm not positive but I think national boundaries void any type of license you may have, to drive anyway.
